Name - Arthur Kirkland
Country of Origin - England
Gender - Male
Age - Twenty-three years
Height - 5'9"
Weight - 140lbs
Hair Colour - Blond
Eye Colour - Green
Affiliation - Pirates/Nobles
Job - Pirate Captain; Lord
Appearance -
Personality -
Arthur considers himself first and foremost a gentleman. He is prim and proper, if not utterly stuck up. He will help someone in need, though most times he expects something in return. Never is a rude comment uttered to a stranger, with the exception of annoying and French strangers, but also a friendly comment is rarely spoken. He has a quick temper, though, and he can only bite his tongue for so long. More often than not, he will end up snapping, making most believe he really isn't a gentleman at all.
A better way to describe him would be somewhat of a punk. In the public eye, he tends to keep to his 'prim and proper' ways, but there are times when he drops his front completely. He doesn't hold back his temper at all, throwing scathing comments to anyone he chooses. His personality flips almost completely during this time. After he is a gentleman, he is a pirate. He has an air of authority and arrogance that surrounds him at all times. He doesn't hold back and he is not afraid to fight for what he wants.
Not matter which face he has on, Arthur is undeniably moody. He can go from joyous one moment to depressed the next. In his public mask he is better at covering up his moods, though subtle changes can be noted if he is watched carefully. Anger is the only emotion he seems to be unable to supress. When alone or as a pirate, he doesn't bother with masks.
It would take a very dreadful situation for Arthur to accept help from anyone. His crew aside, he normally stands alone. He doesn't have many people he can really call his 'friend', preferring to think of most as nothing more than acquaintances. Part of his independent attitude stems from two of his greatest fears: having others leave him or to have them hurt while trying to protect him. Not to say that he doesn't have any close friends, but he tends to keep them out of his business.
Arthur is most definitely a drunk. He is comforted by his alcohol, happy to settle down with some hard liquor after a long day. Of course, he's only happy until he's absolutely pissed. At that point, he starts to become bitter and depressed. He'll cry and yell at anyone and anything, often accusing people of ruining his life whether he knows them or not. It can be quite entertaining to watch.

Fears -
Being close to others - They're bound to leave you some day. It's easier to to stay independent rather than deal with the future pain.
Someone being hurt on his account - If someone was fatally injured trying to protect you, wouldn't you feel a large amount of guilt?
Feeling weak - To be taken advantage of, to be beaten down, to be utterly helpless. None of these are pleasant.
Sinking - In the literal sense. Whether it's on the sea or in the skies, if a ship goes down it's not going to be pretty. Especially in the water. As a pirate, it would be wise to learn how to swim, but....
Dying - Always ready to put your life on the line, but it's later that you realise how close you had come to really dying. The thought will fade.
Strengths -
Ambition - He always strives for more power and bigger challenges.
Stubborn - He won't give up until he has what he wants.
Skilled - In most places, other than culinary skills. He's talented with a sword, and he's a magnifecent shot.
Acting - Good with words and keeping up appearances, he can easily get away with lies. If not a lie, then he can tell truths as if he was only joking.
Smarts - Both book smarts and street smarts. He knows much about how the world works. He can outwit nearly anyone.
The Fae - Sometimes it seems he knows more than he should. It helps to have friends that most others can't see.
Bad Cooking? - Perhaps it was only an accident, but he has poisoned an enemy with his own cooking before. He was more distraught by this than he was pleased.
Weaknesses -
Hotheaded - He's good at keeping up appearances, but it only takes so much idiocy before he blows.
Alcohol - Some people are prone to vomitting, but in his case there's an awful lot of word vomit. Usually it's mostly nonsense about leading a hard life, but sometimes he says just too much. Unfortunately, he won't remember saying any of it later.
His Independence - Resulting from his stubbornness and his fear of being close to people, he has learned to rely only on himself. Not every situation can be dealt with by only one person.
Gentlemanly Behavior - Most of the time he doesn't seem like a gentleman, but he does have his moments of chivalry. Often it is those who are seemingly in need of help that would be able to deceive him.
History -
Arthur was born into nobility, brought up as a fine young gentleman. However, this life bored him even as a child. He found himself engrossed in novels of many different genres. He found himself fascinated by fantasy books, wishing that such mythical creatures and magic really existed. With a strong belief that they could be real, Arthur began to see faeries. They became his closest friends, though it was hard to interact with them. His parents wouldn't approve of him talking to his 'imaginary' friends. In an attempt to make him more sociable, and perhaps less 'insane', they forced him out of their home more. He did become more social, though it was through his short friendships that he learned that nothing lasts forever.
Still preferring solitude, Arthur continued to spend much of his time reading. His favorite subject changed from tales of fantasy to stories telling of piracy. He was enthralled by every epic journey he read about and he was excited by the misdeeds of pirates. Of course, his family was disgusted by piracy, forcing him to hide this fascination as well. Even as he continued to grow, his interest never faltered. He became increasingly aware of just how wrong this interest was as he learned more about the world. What seemed like an amazing adventure before turned out to be a horrible crime. Still, he could not deny that the idea gave him a certain thrill.
It was a thrill he never planned to act on until he came to a certain age. His friends and his family began to head into the military, something that was expected of him as well. He because a bigger disappointment to his parents when he refused. Arthur did not want them to feel this way and came up with a solution he thought might satisfy them both. He could lie about his status, and tell them he had joined the military but in truth he would run off and join a pirate crew. It was easier said than done, but he managed to pull this plan off.
This new life was a hard one that taught his much. He became tougher, learning to take a punch and throw one back. He became skilled with weapons; one of the best in his crew. It was during this time that he also gained his love for alcohol. But he became ambitious, finding himself unhappy with being just a member of the crew. At the cost of being considered a tyrant by the others, Arthur overthrew the captain, taking his place.
Simultaneously to becoming head of his crew, Arthur's father passed and left him as head of his household as well. As much as he would have liked to focus completely on being captain, the guilt of knowing he had lied to everyone for so long gnawed at him. There was no way he would allow himself to ignore the needs his his family. He assumed a double life, telling lies all the while.
Sample/Character Introduction -
[ taken from Circustalia ]
Though he did not have a show starting for quite a while yet, Arthur sat backstage, his cart which held many swords next to him. He held one sword in his hand, the other hand rubbing down the blade to clean it. He wasn't one of those people who could stand to put the blade down their throat knowing it was dirty. Really, who knew what kind of diseases and dirt floated around back here? The Brit grumbled, examining his sword before putting it back into place and grabbing the next.
To anyone who may come by, it would seem that he was in a terrible mood. That wasn't completely true. Always before a show he would feel nervous, which was completely understandable. Sword swallowing was a dangerous practice, after all, and Arthur had hardly perfected the skill. He had been swallowing swords for a few years now, along with other objects, but he really had yet to become a master of the art. Then again, even those who had mastered it were probably nervous before a show. If anything even went slightly wrong, the results could be ghastly. He shuddered at the thought.
Well, this was doing nothing to help his nervousness. He continued to rub the blades clean, trying to focus on the task at hand. "Come now, you've done this before. Plenty of times. You'll be fine." He looked up for a moment hoping there was no one there who would witness him talking to himself. Actually, he would have felt better if there was someone there. Someone he could talk to to distract him from his fearful thoughts. Even if it was only somewhat.
Then again, Arthur wasn't really a fan of talking to people. Especially those who witnessed his show and wanted to ask questions. There were so many stupid people out there who believed everything he did was a mere trick. If it was a trick, he wouldn't have that horrible sore throat the few days after. If it was a trick, he wouldn't have submit himself to eating gallons of ice cream (he wouldn't admit that he loved the stuff) after every show. If it was a trick, he wouldn't be sitting here worrying about how he might cause himself a severe injury! ...right, it was really only the stupid fans that pissed him off. Some of them were genuinely interested and fascinated.
Arthur placed the blade back in it's holster, pulling out the next and the last. To think, after the show he'd be back here cleaning his swords again. Really, how had he ended up in such a messy business? "Oh right, because I lack the skills to do anything else."
Some side notes ~
AWIGHT. So... I'm gonna admit that I did reference to the former England's profile for some of this. I probably won't continue with anything the former person had started, but I did want to keep the character somewhat similar, though the history is rather different. I hope this is okay. =3
Oh, and also...
Aah, that little guy who's chirping,
I'm going to pet it
Feels so good!
I just can't stand it!
