Name:
Raivis Galante
Country of Origin:
The Russian Empire (Российская Империя).
Gender:
Male
Age:
15
Height/Weight:
Height: 4”5 inches
Weight: 125 lbs (He’s underweight.)
Hair/Eye Colour:
Grey-blonde hair and scared violet eyes.
Affiliation:
Unwilling pirate, courtesy of Ivan.
Job:
Unwilling cabinboy/servant of the HMS Iron Curtain.
Appearance:
Personality:
Shy, timid, and sort of a crybaby. Raivis has a hard time trusting people, and often shakes due to malnutrition and fear of the unknown. He’s very easily scared, and will cry at almost everything. The boy is slightly squeamish too. Though if you give him enough alcohol, this personality will change completely and he will become harsh and cruel, easily angered and almost sadistic. With his brothers, Raivis is almost happy and indefinitely less scared. He shakes a lot less, but that’s because they take pity on the child and feed him whatever scraps they have—which he usually refuses. He loves his brothers and would do his best to protect them in an emergency.
Around his ‘employer’, however, his personality changes once more. It becomes one of ultimate fear and submission. His violet eyes are often focused on the ground and his trembling increases tremendously. Most of the time, the boy cries out of utter fear. Though the two went to school together, that didn’t stop the Latvian from fearing the Russian man almost instantly once he was aboard the ship. The mere mention of the man makes Raivis’ limbs quake.
Likes:
+ His brothers.
+ Candies.
+ Sailing over the seas, actually.
+ Food. He doesn’t care what kind, it’s food.
+ Books. He’s always liked reading.
+ Flowers, Raivis has got sort of a childish weakness for them.
Dislikes:
- Ivan. He wants desperately to get away from the man.
- Blood and violence. He’s squeamish, as stated earlier.
- Being starved by his oh-so-‘kind’ master.
- Being beaten for something he didn’t do. This happens often, he’s the youngest and the weakest.
Fears:
~ Ivan. He’s beaten and starved by the man, as well as forced to work for him.
~ The dark.
~ Fire.
~ Pretty much everything unknown to him. (Strangers, new lands, dark corridors…)
~ Being left alone for long periods of time. It reminds him of the days he spent wandering alone, cold and hungry.
~ Drowning, which is actually a legit fear, since he’s moving about the ocean.
Strengths:
& Cleaning. He’s unusually good at it.
& Cooking, though this varies.
& His speed. Since Raivis is small, he’s a fast runner.
& Can fit into very small spaces.
Weaknesses:
* Raivis is much too submissive; it often leads to bad events.
* Paranoia: Wonder who’s fault that is.
* Raivis is extremely afraid of the dark.
* The Latvian cries very easily.
* A lack of proper nutrition makes the boy’s frame shake, and he gets tired a lot more easily than he usually would.
* Squeamish.
History:
The Latvian child grew up on the streets, before going from house to house. He was always hungry, always tired, always dirty and rather unkempt. Before he was taken in by various people, he would often go and beg for food near houses, getting a scrap or two because he looked so ghostly. In the first household, he met Toris and Eduard. The three got along well and the other two felt bad for the small boy, so they tried their best to keep him close to them. Feliks took over care of the three after a while, and under his care, the trembling boy and his brothers got more freedoms than they had with anyone else.
Then, Ivan took them all away once more, and thus started another streak of hunger, sickness, and pain, much like the one he had endured before living with the Polish man. Now he is stuck with the task of being a servant on Ivan’s vast ship, cooking meals for the Russian while never getting a single scrap for himself. He’s had to watch as Ivan tortured his brothers, and sometimes random people he’d forced along his conquest. (More than often, those people end up dead). Among the people he’d met, the two he missed the most were Tino and Yekaterina, Ivan’s older sister. Tino acted like a mother to the boy before the older male fled, and Yekaterina gave him the bright red cape he wears out of pity. He often wonders what became of the two.
Sample/Character Introduction:
The first thing the boy remembered seeing was utter darkness. He could smell the blood of the other shipmates collecting around him as he sat up, gagging a little out of reflex. His fragile limbs began to shake as he rubbed his tired violet eyes, brushing a few locks of hair out of his gaunt, young face. He wondered who would be captured today, if anyone. A faint glimmer of hope, maybe Tino would come back-! This though, he doubted. The Fin had hated it there, and Raivis didn’t blame him. The blonde glanced side to side—Toris and Eduard were still asleep. He smiled sadly and watched his brothers for a moment before standing, stumbling over one or two vibrations of waves that hit the ship’s hull. It was almost daybreak. He had to start cooking Ivan’s breakfast, or no one else would and that would result in a beating. Raivis didn’t like those. With a shudder, he made his way into the kitchen, ignoring the usual sharp sting of hunger upon seeing all the food inside. He began to cook the man’s favorite, potato rolls and Oladyi, being sure to make it just as Ivan liked it. The blonde tried to still his shaking hands as he cooked, and soon enough they were done. Raivis placed the food on a tray and poured his commander a tall glass of water to go with it, shuffling down the hall and knocking gently on the doorframe. He heard the usual grunt that meant come in and he kept his gaze on the ground, avoiding looking at the larger male before him. He placed the tray down and waited as Ivan took it, listening to the crunching sounds and trying desperately not to beg for a piece. Raivis knew Ivan loved it when he begged, and he at least didn’t want to give him that satisfaction. The Russian had already taken so much from the Latvian. He looked back up and trembled, having accidentally met Ivan’s fierce violet eyes. The tray was empty now. Hastily, the boy took it and fled back to the kitchen, cleaning up before beginning the rest of his chores.
Someday, he hoped to be free. Just like he had practically been with Feliks. Toris was much happier then too, and it made Raivis smile sadly to think of those better days. Someday, this would all stop and Ivan would get what was coming for him. But for now, he’d just keep on doing as he was told. If he was a bit braver, he might try stealing food from the pantry. But the last time he’d done that, the Latvian had gotten caught and ended up locked away in Ivan’s quarters for two, maybe even three days. His shiver once more increased as he dried his hands, heading back to the lower decks to grab his ruby-red cape. He draped it around his thin shoulders and drew the warmth around himself, closing his eyes for a moment and breathing in the scent. It was her scent, that woman, the one who had been so kind to him. Yekaterina. How he missed her…But no doubt, she was in a happier place than this. With a resigned sigh, the boy set about to do the rest of his chores as his brothers stirred behind him.
